ORNETTE COLEMAN DOUBLE QUARTET Free Jazz (1969 US stereo issue of the groundbreaking 1961 LP, a milestone in spontaneous group improvisation using two separate quartets panned to either side of the stereo spectrum that caused a great deal of controversy at the time - could this really be jazz? A fascinating, radical document and historical companion piece to Joe Harriott's 'Free Form' recorded that same year. The stellar array of musicians feature Ornette Coleman, Donald Cherry, ScottLaFaro & Billy Higgins on the left channel and Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden & Ed Blackwell on the right. The pasted gatefold picture sleeve has extensive sleeve notes along with an equally abstract Jackson Pollock illustration inside. The vinyl on this copy remains in excellent condition with little sign of play SD1364)
