Tracklisting & More Information

The Strangers / Juniors included Vocalist Mal Collins, Bassist John Glascock, Drummer Brian Glascock & Guitarists Mick Taylor & Alan Shacklock.

Mick Taylor later went on to join a certain Dartford band called The Rolling Stones. John Glascock was to become the Bass player with Chicken Shack & then Jethro Tull. Brother Brian Glascock became a respected session drummer as well as playing with The Motels.
Alan Shacklock went on to join Chris Farlowe's Thunderbirds, The Gods & then form Babe Ruth, later still to become a respected record producer and Grammy nominated composer of music for films.

While this fairly obscure talent factory rivals The Yardbirds as being a small seed from which mighty Oaks grew, what is amazing about this unit is that the band were just into their very early teens at the time of recording the acetate.
John was eleven, Alan was twelve, Mal and Mick were thirteen and Brian was fourteen. The single was recorded just a year later as 'The Juniors' with the same line-up.

Six black and white photographs are included from the band's first ever photosession, four black and white photographs taken by The Herts Advertiser newspaper at one of their gigs and four extremely cute photographs of them performing a heat of a Walls Ice Cream talent contest, which they won, including a shot of the band with the very disappointed looking runners-up, who were about twice their age!

The unique publicity photograph of The Vincents was taken circa 1965 at a time when the otherwise four piece band had drafted in Mal Collins & Mick Taylor for a few gigs. This lineup was very short lived and only recorded in this rare photograph.

The single sided metal based high grade methyl cellulose lacquer acetate contains the four tracks recorded as the unreleased 'Meet The Strangers' EP & plays at 33RPM. This was actually organised by the parents of the band and is one of only five acetates made. This acetate has been kept by Vocalist Mal Collins for the last fifty years and the other four are presumed lost.
It was recorded in one room, with all the band together. A small vocal booth for Mal, the drums in a corner for Brian, and just sockets for the guitars in the wall for Alan, Mick, and John - No amps. Very basic, but then again, that was what it was like in those days. Obviously, this disc is a “live” performance (warts and all), as there was no editing possible.
Two tracks were instrumental & two vocal, all being covers of tracks that were originally performed by The Spotniks, The Dakotas, Joe Brown and The Bruvvers & Cliff Richard And The Shadows.

The single was recorded a year later under the new name 'The Juniors' for Columbia records.

Condition wise, the 7" would be graded VG, with several evident surface scuffs, although it plays through without fault.
The acetate, being fragile by nature, remains in surprisingly nice condition with again just a few surface scuffs to show for its fifty years.

A unique package featuring the earliest recordings & memorabilia of each of the members of this talented line-up, unrivalled in scope & with bulletproof provenance, having come direct from vocalist Mal Collins, who has looked after this archive for the past fifty years & only now is prepared to see it go.
