THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA conducted by EUGENE ORMADY Chopin: Les Sylphides / Delibes: Sylvia / Coppelia (1963 Canadian stereo vinyl LP. Whilst Tchaikovsky is widely credited with raising the quality of ballet music to the same level as the Symphony and Opera music, in truth Delibes had preceded him by nearly ten years. The scores for Sylvia and Coppelia are every bit as vibrant and symphonic as any of Tchaikovsky's ballet compositions and in fact, Tchaikovsky himself once said that if he had known of Sylvia, he would have never felt the need to compose Swan Lake.
