ERNIE WILKINS featuring 5 TRUMPETS Top Brass (1956 UK 6-track mono LP, recorded for Savoy in November 1955 & engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. The 'five trumpets' in question are Donald Byrd, Ray Copeland, Joe Wilder, Ernie Royal & Idrees Sulieman - each of whom at one time has been given credit for this session but it was in fact led by conducter & arranger Ernie Wilkins, who also provided half the tunes for the album. Aided & abetted by the very worthy Savoy in-house musicians at the time, Hank Jones, Wendell Marshall & Kenny Clarke, this album is a tour de force. The sleeve is fully laminated with scalloped flipbacks & is close to near mint as it gets. The heavyweight vinyl appears clean & in Excellent condition with very few signs of play LTZ-C15013)
