HENRY COW / SLAPP HAPPY In Praise Of Learning (1978 French issue of the 1975 6-track vinyl LP, this is one of the great albums of jazz/rock experimentation. Fred Frith's guitar is challenging and thrilling & Dagmar Krause's vocals complement the music beautifully. As the quote on the album states; "Art is not a mirror, it is a hammer". Get this and open your ears. At a time when music was either bland and poppy or overburdened with stadium sized pretention this is uncompromising andtough minded. The addition of Slapp Happy to the mix adds a dimension that made this album stand out from the other 'sock' albums and proved a precursor for what was to follow with Desperate Straights, front laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve is still in its opened shrinkwrap and the vinyl has little sign of play LTM1010)
