Sleeve Design :-
This album was first issued in Japan in February 1965. The sleeve design is similar to the familiar UK one with the exception of the Japanese sleeve notes & the fact that it is NOT an internal pocket design, but the disc is inserted from the outside edge.
Obi : -
Only a very small number were pressed with this particular rounded design obi. There is an even rarer issue from 1968 with a brown rounded obi, but that is almost mythological with numbers in the handfuls.
The obi was replaced with a blue triangular design in 1967, before the more familiar, but still rare green 'point' obi in Summer 1968.
There have been attempts to reprint this obi, but all counterfeits are much more obviously modern & tend to have a smooth 'glossy' feel. This obi is, without doubt, the real deal.
Condition :-
Sleeve
The sleeve itself is in staggering condition, despite being printed on fairly thin stock. There are just the lightest few scuffs when held to the light caused by vinyl shift over the years but otherwise there are no creases, edge marks or other significant flaws. There is a tiny white tape correction mark actually inside the gatefold & at the edge of the insert, however this is of little consequence.
To be honest, you'd probably not have got much better had you purchased it in 1965!
Inside, you will find the familiar pictures as used on the UK sleeve, with the exception that the album notes are in Japanese & the English translation of the tracklisting is below. Apart from a little foxing, common with Japanese paper from this period, & some age yellowing at the edges, all details are clear & readable.
Obi
Being far rarer than the album itself, this obi is in fantastic condition with very little sign of being over forty five years old. The green is clear & bright with no evidence of light fading. Easily as good as it gets.
Vinyl
Using the Japanese 'Everclean' red vinyl formula, this disc has obviously been played, but also has obviously been looked after extremely well.
There are some spindle marks to the centre of the label, but the label print is still clear & bright, with no sign of wear.
The vinyl itself, which easily meets an excellent grade, has nothing but the lightest hairline paper scuffs visible upon very close inspection, probably caused by removal & replacement in the original envelope style paper inner. This original catalogue envelope inner is still present, making this copy not only an original, but a COMPLETE original.
This is our first complete copy in over twenty five years of looking. A spectacular copy that you would be unlikely to ever better!
