STEVE REICH Early Works (Essential 1987 German 4-track vinyl LP by Reich, the techno prophecy, at his most inspired. To quote The Wire mag, in 1965 San Francisco, Reich experimented with two identical tape loops he had recorded of a black Pentecostal preacher. Letting the loops go slightly out of phase, he became mesmerised by the complex sub-rhythms & voices morphing into pulsing Minimalist music. 'It's Gonna Rain' lifts those three words from the sermon & sends them skyward. In 1966he pushed the voice of Daniel Hamm, arrested in the Harlem riots of 1964, even further towards a morass of hypnotic vibrations around the phrase "Come out to show them". The piture sleeve shows very little wear, this copy has a very small sticker to the backcover and the vinyl is Near Mint)
