Tracklisting & More Information
This is one of THE classic mod albums of the mid sixties. Easily up there with 'My Generation' as being one of the most partied LPs of 1965/66.
As a consequence, these are seldom found mint. In truth, these are seldom found even intact, most having been written on, ripped covers etc. from their heady life spent going continously from party to party.
This one does indeed have writing on the cover, but this is the period signature of drummer Keef Hartley, rather than any previous owner.
Condition:-
As can be expected, this is not what you could ever describe as mint, although it is a cut above the average copy that is found. We have playtested this one & it plays through without skipping or jumping, despite a few rather obvious scratches, miraculously exhibiting no 'burring' in loud passages or towards the end of the album sides. In fact, the music is as clear as a bell, which is a testament to the quality of this 1966 deep groove pressing.
The Sleeve:
The front is fully laminated & still nicely bright. There is little in the way of edge scuffing & the spine is still clearly readable.
The back, not being fortunate to have the protection of laminate, does show a little discolouration at the edges, but nothing too outrageous & all cover text is clearly readable. Keef has signed the back over his picture, which is quite nice.
We have to grade this sleeve as FAIR, simply because of one historical bashing that it suffered at the top of the opening which has resulted in two small eighth
of an inch tears on the front & a matching 3/4 inch chunk missing from the back. In reality, this is nothing that affects the period 'feel' of the sleeve & would easily make VG otherwise.
The Vinyl:
As previously mentioned, it is not without a few battle scars. Several in fact. The spindle marks around the centre hole point to it having been a turntable favourite for quite some time. Shagged then ? Absolutely not !
Upon playtesting this beauty, we were delighted to hear that this album is amazing.
We knew that was the case musically, but the sonics of this copy remain as clear as a bell.
Visually, this would be graded G+/VG- but, upon playback you receive VG+/EX- audio.
The visible scratches turn into mainly cosmetic defects and only occasionally can a light 'click' be heard. Background noise is also kept to a minimum, even between tracks. It sounds way better than the visual inspection would have indicated and is a real treat for the ears. Cymbals are still crisp, bottom end is still well defined, lovely.
A rather nice, if not mint, copy of this classic album that has actually been autographed by Keef Hartley to boot. This is also available at an extremely advantageous price, a fraction of what you would expect to pay for a supposed 'Mint' copy, yet still very very playable indeed.
You will not be disappointed.
