VASHTI BUNYAN Just Another Diamond Day (Ultra rare original 1970 UK 14-track LP - a beautiful pastoral folk album of originals by Vashti, almost lost to time but brought back to light in recent years. This album has attained cult status, not least for its contributions from the UK's late 60s rock royalty - produced by the legendary Joe Boyd, Diamond also stars Incredible String Band's Robin Williamson & Fairport Convention's Dave Swarbrick & Simon Nicol, and string arrangements are courtesy of Robert Kirby, famed for his work with Nick Drake. Light foxing is visible when the sleeve is tilted into the light, however not seen viewed normally, with just a little light foxing nearest the spine in the centre of the gatefold. The spine is clearly legible and the print inside unblemished. There are no rips or tears, making this a very good example indeed. The labels are smooth textured black with silver print. There are spindle marks both sides to indicate play, but no tears or blemishes to the design. The vinyl is graded Good and has been professionally cleaned and shows light scuffs and scratches across the whole surface of both sides. The most severe scratch is on the last track on side two, which can be heard as a series of fairly loud clicks through the last half of the track. The record has been fully play tested and no skips or jumps were evident, although the accoustic nature of the album means that quieter passages reveal light clicks etc. As a bonus the original owner has glued two original newspaper articles about Vashti to the inner sleeve, one from 1971 and the other from 2003. To sum up, this is a record which is far from in ideal condition, but with so few original copies available, can be forgiven for its short comings. The gatefold picture sleeve shows a little minor edge wear, as originals were never laminated. There is no writing anywhere. On deeper inspection there is the lightest scuff near the 'Copyright subsists...' paragraph, and the lightest of shelfwear to cover. We would grade this copy Excellent. The spine is clear and all text is clearly legible. The labels are shiny silver on black & in near mint condition. Both sides show almost no evidence of play by the spindle area. The matrices are machine stamped & end 1Y/2/ 2Y/1. The vinyl is incredibly clean, with minimal evidence of play. Due to the quiet and gentle nature of the performance and recording, some light surface noise is sometimes evident, but this is not intrusive in the slightest. The sound quality is gorgeous & testament to the quality of British vinyl at this point [you can throw your reissue away after you've heard this!]. All in all, this is a beautiful Excellent condition copy of a rare original first press. This is as close to perfection as it gets and comes highly recommended.
