A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| SIR CHING I Hello Everyone (Mythical, rarest-of-the-rare & still
largely unknown British Psych-Pop 1970 UK 7" vinyl single on Spark.
We consider this one of the most highly prized & highly priced 45s of
the British Psych 1966-70 golden age. Housed in its period wavy-top
plain die-cut company sleeve, the single has the exquisite Hiawatha
Mini Ha Ha Love on the b-side. See 'more info' for the full story...)
Tracklisting: From the liner notes of the Hello Everyone - Popsike Sparks From Denmark Street compilation:
“Between 1968 and 1970, some of the finest, most obscure British psychedelic pop singles of the era escaped on the Spark label, the newly-inaugurated recording arm of long-established publishers Southern Music. Recorded in the basement studio of the company's Denmark Street premises, these tracks often featured the same cabal of musicians and songwriters, leading to a homogenous in-house style that perfectly encapsulates the late 1960's British pop-psych studio sound…”
The compilation was named after this 45. It went by the one-time artist name of Sir Ching I [“searching first" or "searching eye”]. The compilation's liner notes claim it to be “astonishingly rare” with “only one stock copy known to exist”. Just one other collector online has stepped forward in the meantime to announce the existence of a second copy. This record is so elusive it has yet to hit the online market & there is no entry for it in the Rare Record Price Guide.
A "Holy Grail" ?
Penned by the songwriting machine of Barry Kingston, Russ Alquist & Ken Lewis [The Ivy League, The Flower Pot Men], both the A & B side are first class British Psych tunes, with sumptuous swirling Mellotron & dreamy kaleidoscopic arrangements & vocals.
Obtained from the private collection of a lifelong former record store owner, how many were pressed of these & have still survived to this day is unknown, but this appears to be the third known copy. The vinyl is near 'as new'.
