 | RAW MATERIAL Time Is... (Very rare 1971 UK 6-track vinyl LP,
gatefold picture sleeve with jet-black die-cut company inner. One of the
hardest records to find in the uber-collectable RCA Neon series, this is
superior prog rock action from the short-lived British act that were
favourably compared to Van Der Graaf Generator and King Crimson
[yes, that good], expect twin sax, extended instrumental passages
and deft keyboard work throughout. This is the only copy we have ever
seen of thiselusive prog album. See 'more info' for further details...)
Tracklisting: CONDITION
This is a one previous owner copy, which appears to have been in cold storage for over thirty years as part of a large collection.
The sleeve generally shows only light wear, however, it is graded as VG+/EX as along the top edge there is a thin bar that has faded [most probably through storage]. There is also some minor edgewear/ringwear evident and on the reverse a miniscule biro ininital [barely visible]. The colours remain vivid and the text is all clearly legible, the spine has some minor wear and the sleeve is free from seam splits and tears.
The disc grades as EX and has been professionally cleaned on a Matrix machine & play tested. The sound is rich & warm and really fills the room giving a nice sense of space. There is very little surface noise at the start of each run-in groove making for a really enjoyable listening experience. If inspected under a strong light there are some faint hairlines/paper scuffs but nothing of any significance. There are no unsightly spindle marks around the label indicating that little actual play has taken place over its lifetime.

press 7-track stereo vinyl LP on a rough textured Evolution label,
the debut album from the little known long-haired Londoners, a
proto-prog grail with collectors worldwide now looking to own a
copy. Comes housed in a stunning front laminated flipback

Condition:-
In terms of the cover condition, this is a one previous owner example that was bought from new at the time of release. Not many copies sold at all it seems in 1970 with severe lack of promotion, but its previous owner just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The sleeve remains Excellent to Near Mint, as it was kept in a plastic cover all its life - both panels remain exceptionally clean with no writing & there are few signs of shelfwear. So far, so good.
The heavyweight vinyl remains nice & clean & is strictly graded GOOD. Its previous owner appears to have played the record only a small handful of times, however, this copy of the vinyl has suffered from some heat wear damage both sides. This can be seen when the vinyl is held to the light. Heat damage is a common occurence with records of a certain age, usually found with vinyl rescued from far hotter climates than old blighty, the likely story is that our previous owner left the vinyl a little too near a hot pipe in the loft... What ever the case, the good news is that both sides play through without jumps or heavy clicks & the vinyl remains flat. The production is already on the fairly lo-fi end of the scale but the music shines through just fine - what there is as a result is a soft wave sound in the background during playback on each rotation of the disc for the first ten minutes or so either side. If you can live with this, you have a decent collection filler that's half the price of an original copy when found in better condition, that's if you can find one... This example should still please the collector, & would certainly look fantastic as a show piece, but do bear in mind the vinyl is far from mint. |  | RAW MATERIAL Time Is... Tracklisting: CONDITION
The sleeve shows obvious ringwear and rubbing/discolouration to the edges, with small patch showing a paper tear to corner, which whilst noticeable, still leaves the artwork largely clear. The sleeve is free from writing. The interior shows light wear, but nothing severe with all text clearly legible. The sleeve is free from tears or splits and is graded as G.
The disc grades as VG+ and has been professionally cleaned on a Matrix machine & play tested. Both sides show a few light scuffs & hairlines, which have minimal impact on play; certainly play testing gives a much better result than could be expected on a purely visual appraisal! All in all a nice play copy, which considering the price of Mint examples, would serve well as a reasonably priced, yet still very rare stunner!
