A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| LARRY LUREX & THE VOLES FROM VENUS I Can Hear Music (Stunning
genuine Trident Studios UK 1-sided acetate recorded by Freddie, Brian
and Roger during summer of 1973 while they were waiting for
available studio time to work on their debut album. Trident producer
Robin Cable thought Freddie's voice was perfect for this novelty cover
of the Beach Boys song. When released the artist name was
shortened to just 'Larry Lurex'. See 'more info' for condition details of
this amazing item...
Tracklisting: The Trident Studios labels feature the studio logo, name and address printed in orange above the centrehole. Beneath the centrehole is the title of the track handwritten in black ballpoint pen, underneath this the words 'Larry Lurex + The Voles From Venus' has been added in blue ballpoint pen.
The labels are an off-white colour with a speckled appearance, likely to be caused by the glue residue seeping through the label over the last 30 years.
The playing area of the acetate is in resonable condition, some very light marks are evident, however as an acetate it is not intended to be played on your audiophile turntable and should be regarded as an exclusive piece of Queens history, not as a playable record. The contents of the acetate are identical to the released version. The scan does not do the condition justice.
Trident Studios acetates are highly sought after as they rarely turn up on the collectors market, most UK Queen acetates have 'EMIdisc' labels and only a few tracks from the first and second album were recorded at Trident. | | LARRY LUREX I Can Hear Music (Genuine rare original 1973 German
EMI vinyl 7" single with title on label mis-spelt as I Can Her Music,
backed with Goin' Back. The vinyl is in mint and unplayed condition,
housed in a unique picture sleeve which shows signs of wear however
the jukebox label [originally intended to be cut out] is still intact - this
is the genuine article with machine stamped matrix information,
guaranteed!)**See more info for further background and condition on this amazing item**
Tracklisting: BACKGROUND
Recorded around the same time as the first Queen album, this single was recorded as much to test the studio as anything, in an attempt by the studio engineer to emulate Phil Spector's trademark sound. The sound engineer had heard Freddie singing before, and was suitably impressed, and so asked if Freddie wanted to be involved. Soon Brian and Roger were also dragged along, and the result was 'I Can Hear Music'. The sound technicians were so pleased with it that it ended up as a single. Not released however until 1973, just three weeks before the first 'proper' Queen recordings were due for release. To prevent any confusion, it was decided not to use the name 'Queen' for 'I Can Hear Music' as well, so the tongue-in-cheek 'Larry Lurex' (a pun on 'Gary Glitter') was adopted. The public failed to get the joke however, and the single sank without trace.
This German pressing was the only issue to feature a picture sleeve, manufactured with a high sheen and fragile paper sleeve. This is the first pressing which was manufactured with an error on the label saying "I Can Her Music". This was corrected in the second pressing
CONDITION
As previously indicated the sleeve on this incredibly rare German issue is manufactured using high sheen and very fragile paper and as such is always usually found in less than mint condition and this copy is no different.
The front sleeve shows signs of ring wear and creasing and due to vinyl shift a small 1" cut through the bottom of sleeve is evident, although clearly with defects [which is reflected in the selling price], it is still a perfectly acceptable sleeve and quite likely one of the few opportunities collectors will have to purchase at under £450. | | LARRY LUREX I Can Hear Music (Rare 1973 US tan Anthem label
promotional vinyl 7" for the single, this little known release is actually
Freddie Mercury on vocals with rumoured backing from Brian May and
Roger Taylor! This issue plays the 3:05 version on both sides, custom
'Promotion Copy' printed labels with a plain die-cut paper sleeve. The
vinyl has just a few light inaudible cosmetic surface marks, otherwise a
really nice example. A hard to find guaranteed genuine promo item!
