A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...

KENNY DORHAM Whistle Stop (Sealed Limited Edition 2008 US exclusive 7-track stereo double LP pressed on 180gram Vinyl at 45rpm for maximum sound clarity by Analogue Productions, expertly remastered by Kevin Gray & Steve Hoffman at AcousTech for the audiophile collector. Also stars Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Kenny Drew (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) & Philly Joe Jones (drums), first released in 1960, & all at the top of their game, in what was a golden period for Blue Note. Comes housed in a deluxe picture sleeve reproducing the original artwork with silver numbered sticker on the back, still sealed in the unopened tearbag. The vinyl is Mint & unplayed AP-84063)

Tracklisting: Philly Twist Buffalo Sunset Whistle Stop Sunrise In Mexico Windmill Dorham's Epitaph
KENNY DORHAM 'Round About Midnight At The Cafe Bohemia (Rare & in demand 1956 first US issue 6-track mono LP, on a Blue Note label with Lexington Ave address & a deep groove both sides of the label. Other first issue indicators includethe flat edge, no 'r' below 'Note' on the labels & both the 'RVG' [Rudy Van Gelder] & 'ear' etchings in the run-offs. Also stars J.R. Monterose on Tenor, Kenny Burrell on Guitar, Bobby Timmons on Piano, Sam Jones on Bass & Arthur Edgehill on Drums, pasted matt picture sleeve with the Lexington address on the back. See 'more info' for condition details of this historic Blue Note classic... BLP1524)

Tracklisting: 1. Monaco 2. Round About Midnight 3. Mexico City 4. A Night In Tunisia 5. Autumn In New York 6. Hill's Edge Condition : - The pasted picture sleeve has the 'Blue Note 1524' catalogue number printed top left on the back & the original '767 Lexington Ave' address at the bottom, & Reid Miles' facsimile signature is present top left on the front. The cover has survived its sixty years to tell its story with grace. A little faint discolouring & some paper chipping around a few edges is present but there are no splits. A faint price indentation is visible when held to the light but otherwise just some mild ring wear. All text is clearly legible & all in all, this is a very good & very respectable example. These initial first pressings are extremely tough to find in any condition, particularly the sleeves. The labels have no writing or tears & the UK tax import sticker is intact on the second side. There are spindle marks by the centre hole to highlight past action on the turntable. The deep groove & Lexington address is present both sides. This was released before the label became an incorporated company & registered trademark, meaning there is no 'INC' or 'R' lettering after 'Blue Note' on the labels. There is a distinct flat edge. The Rudy Van Gelder initials 'RVG' & the 'ear' logo are both etched into the runoff area. The matrices, like the 'ear' are hand scratched. A combination of Van Gelder's sound engineering & Plastylite pressing is well & truly the 'golden age' of highest quality, Blue Note pressings. We really should be putting these in our audiophile store! The vinyl is incredibly clean with no scratches or anything that would upset play. The quality of heavyweight Blue Note vinyl pressings from this period is unsurpassed & playback is immense, with just the lightest bit of surface detectable during the quieter sections. This is a very pleasing VG++ example. A fine play copy of an ultra rare original & at a more affordable price than a mint one!
KENNY DORHAM Quiet Kenny (Limited Record Store Day 2021 180gram issue of the 1959 7-track mono LP, also starring Tommy Flanagan on Piano, Paul Chambers on Bass and Arthur Taylor on Drums, for what was one of Dorham's greatest works outside of Blue Note, housed in a picture sleeve replicating the original album's artwork and notes, all in near mint condition DIW-9010)***Limited to 2500***
KENNY DORHAM Whistle Stop (1973 US stereo issue of the 1961 7-track LP, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder & also featuring Hank Mobley on Tenor, Kenny Drew on Piano, Paul Chambers on Bass & Philly Joe Jones on Drums, pasted picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear & the vinyl remains excellent with just a couple of light surface scuffs to show for its forty years BST84063)

Tracklisting: 'Philly' Twist Buffalo Sunset Whistle Stop Sunrise In Mexico Windmill Dorham's Epitaph
KENNY DORHAM Matador (2022 limited edition Impex Records all-analogue 180-gram vinyl LP mastered from the original tapes, re-introducing a classic among jazz connoisseurs. Also starring Jackie McLean, Bobby Timmons, Teddy Smith, and J.C. Moses, all of whom deliver outstanding performances. Housed inside a high quality paper stock tip-on jacket faithfully reproducing the original sleeve art. Individually numbered from an edition of just 5000 copies, with hype sticker & clear re-sealable sleeve. Recommended)

Tracklisting: “Kenny Dorham’s Matador can safely claim the all too common distinction of being a classic among jazz connoisseurs while virtually unknown to the casual listener… A fantastic session by any standard.”- Brandon Burke, AllMusic Guide 180-gram vinyl repressing of this 1962 album from the jazz great. Kenny Dorham's Matador can safely claim the all too common distinction of being a classic among jazz connoisseurs while virtually unknown to the casual listener. Dorham is joined here by Jackie McLean, Bobby Timmons, Teddy Smith, and J.C. Moses, all of whom deliver outstanding performances. More than anything, this session is perhaps best known for including a stunning version of McLean's composition "Melody for Melonae," used less than a month earlier on his groundbreaking Blue Note LP Let Freedom Ring. For this session, though, the tune is renamed "Melanie" and, if not better, this version at least rivals the take under McLean's leadership. For starters, the addition of another horn adds some tonal depth to the proceedings, a situation arguably lacking in the tune's earlier recording. Also of note is what has to be Bobby Timmons' most intense moment on record. One rarely has the opportunity to hear Timmons dig and scrape as hard as he does during this solo, and his barely audible vocal accompaniment (...a la Bud Powell) only helps to prove this point. Side A: 1. El Matador 2. Melanie - Part 1 3. Melanie - Part 2 4. Melanie - Part 3 Side B: 1. Smile 2. Beautiful Love 3. Prelude 4. There Goes My Heart ...
KENNY DORHAM with SONNY ROLLINS Jazz Contrasts (1982 German issue of the 1957 6-track vinyl LP. The picture sleeve is still in its open shrink with obi-strip OJC-028)
