A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| DR. Z Three Parts To My Soul (2003 Italian audiophile issue
of the extremely rare 1971 6-track LP, pressed on 180gm
Virgin Vinyl, superb high quality fold-out die-cut picture
sleeve reproducing the original Barney Bubbles artwork. The
sleeve shows minimal shelfwear & the vinyl is flawless
AK244)
Tracklisting: Dr. Z's first & only album is the rarest record ever released on the Vertigo swirl label.
The band was lead by North Wales University professor Keith Keyes, who handles keyboards & vocals, with Bob Watkins on drums, and Rob Watson on bass.
The basic theme for the album is that, in the afterlife, your soul is divided into three parts; Spiritus, Manes et Umbra.
Spiritus, which represents the inherent good side of Man, the side of beauty, gentleness and goodness. The Manes, the part of the soul which inhabits the underworld, more benevolent than malevolent, but still mixing with the Damned & the Umbra, the shade of the soul which refuses to leave the Earth and stays to haunt the world.
The album was produced by Patrick Campbell-Lyons of the band Nirvana.
It has all the right ingredients to be the classic it truly is.
Way ahead of its time, the majesty & power of the Harpsichord drive this album to occasional very great heights, though it will never be standard radio fodder!
This is actually one of the few 'lost prog' albums that deserves its legendary status - Very heavy and dark with a baroque feel.
Reports vary as to the actual retail sales of the album between eleven & eighty as do reports of the quantity of surviving copies - Either way, very very few!
The band were the musical vehicle of North Wales professor Keith Keyes. They were signed to Vertigo by Patrick Campbell-Lyons after he'd been sent a tape of Keyes' singing accompanied only by a piano. The lyrics are all written by professor Keyes & his philosophical point of view is strongly reflected within. Although this inevitably hung heavy on the music at times, the careful approach applied redeemed some of the more indulgent moments. The parts where the shadow side of the soul plays the cardinal role are full of real despair and get a convincing musical treatment. The sparse instrumentation is skillfully used by this English trio and the vocals have an air of menace that some modern death metal bands are still struggling to achieve. The cover is designed by Barney Bubbles, who is better known for designing some of the classic Hawkwind sleeves.

Condition :-
The sleeve shows some light edge wear with a small area of creasing to one corner on the reverse, however there are no splits or damage to the heart-shaped die-cut section, and the colours are bright and unfaded. The notes and lyrics on the back are clearly legible; there are no rips or tears, writing or other marks.
The vinyl is immaculate, retaining a gorgeous shine. The labels are beautifully clean with sharp black print, no discernible spindle wear and an official 'SIAE' copyright stamp on the second side
