A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| THE DON ELLIS ORCHESTRA Electric Bath (Original 1968 US red
Columbia label 5-track '360 Sound' STEREO LP, the first studio
recording for Don with his Orchestra and an impressive one it is too,
with the wonderful Turkish Bath and Open Beauty originals plus Indian
Lady in 5/4 time and New Horizons based on a musical cycle in 17/4
[divided into 5-5-7]! Like Dave Brubeck before him, playing with
irregular time signatures was his forte, and Don delivers the goods on
this, his masterpiece, which is now considered a 'new jazz' classic of
the sixties, and even gets the full thumbs up from Henry Mancini and
his teenage son on the back of the sleeve! The pasted picture sleeve
shows remarkably little wear with age and the vinyl is flawless. A
must-have CS9585)
Tracklisting: 1. Indian Lady
2. Alone
3. Turkish Bath
4. Open Beauty
5. New Horizons | | THE DON ELLIS ORCHESTRA Don Ellis 'Live' At Monterey (1979
Japanese King issue of the 1967 4-track mono vinyl LP, a showstopping
performance recorded at the festival in '66, largely due to this being
the first outing for Ellis' Orchestra in a live setting on an unsuspecting
audience. Ellis drops immediately into unconventional time signatures
to a shocked but approving crowd! Picture sleeve complete with
Japanese/essay booklet & 'Big Band Jazz Masterpieces 1800' obi, all
immaculate GXF-3032)

5. New Horizons | | DON ELLIS Shock Treatment (1968 US 10-track stereo LP, featuring
more fun & games with big band arrangements, electronics & time

issue, this copy has had all references to 'Columbia' blacked out, with
a CBS sticker over the logo on the back. Despite a little ringwear &
some edge scuffing, the sleeve still remains very acceptable & the
vinyl too remains excellent with few signs of its forty five years
