'debut series' full radial Stereo LP reissue of the 1954 set first released
on Debut Records. Accompanied by such luminaries as Charlie Mingus,
Max Roach, brother Hank Jones and Kenny Clarke, this swinging set
was a defining moment for Thad's solo ambition. Of Jones, Mingus was
moved to write, "..the greatest trumpet player that I've heard in this
life." Pressed on vibrant blue vinyl, this record remainsfactory sealed from new, in its original poly bag with CAUTION sticker intact. Just incredible!)

debut at The Village Vanguard, initially recorded as a way to
attract a record deal for the band using minimal, yet clear
recordingtechniques, with Hank Jones, Sam Herman, and
Richard Davis, tri-fold card wallet picture sleeve with 90-page
booklet crammed full of photographs, essays, original press
clippings and interviews - a lavish set HCD-2023) |  | THAD JONES Detroit-New York Junction (Mega rare 1956 US first
issue 5-track deep groove mono LP, on a Blue Note label with
Lexington Ave address & a deep groove both sides of the label. Other
first issue indicators include the flat edge, no 'r' below 'Note' on the
labels & both the 'RVG' [Rudy Van Gelder] & 'ear' etchings in the
run-offs. Also stars Billy Mitchell, Kenny Burrell, Tommy Flanagan,
Oscar Peterson & Shadow Wilson, pasted matt picture sleeve with
Lexington address on the back. See 'more info' for condition details of

This is one felicitous Blue Note original we have never stocked before. The pasted sleeve has no seam splits at all or any writing & is simply as good as it gets. Some very faint discolouring to the panels is unavoidable & there is still a lovely sheen to the front. The yellow remains strikingly vivid & all text is clearly legible with no blemishes to stand in its way. Fantastic!
The labels have no writing or tears & the UK tax import sticker is intact on the second side. There are spindle marks by the centre hole to highlight past action on the turntable. The deep groove & Lexington address is present both sides. This was released before the label became an incorporated company & registered trademark, meaning there is no 'INC' or 'R' lettering after 'Blue Note' on the labels. There is a distinct flat edge.
The Rudy Van Gelder initials 'RVG' & the 'ear' logo are both etched into the runoff area. The matrices, like the 'ear' are hand scratched. A combination of Van Gelder's sound engineering & Plastylite pressing is well & truly the 'golden age' of highest quality, Blue Note pressings. We really should be putting these in our audiophile store!
The vinyl is incredibly clean with no scratches or anything that would upset play. It has received a deep cleanse on a top of the range Matrix machine. The quality of heavyweight Blue Note vinyl pressings from this period is unsurpassed & playback is immense, with just the lightest bit of surface detectable during the quieter sections & at the start. This is a very pleasing VG++ example. A fine play copy of an ultra rare original & at a more affordable price than a mint one. DOUG WATKINS / ELVIN JONES Olio (Rare 1957 UK 6-track LP by a
Jazz 'supergroup' recorded by Rudy Van Gelder on February 16th that
year, unique fully laminated flipback picture sleeve with sleeve notes by
Ira Gitler on the reverse. The flimsy sleeve remains in remarkable
condition with minimal shelfwear & just a little laminate lift at the spine
and some minor age yellowing to show for its fifty five years. The vinyl
too remains in excellent condition with very little evidence of play & still
remains in the original poly inner. Complete & probably as good a copy
as you are ever likely to find of this extremely rare LP!)

sleeve shows only light signs of its age & the vinyl looks
