A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| REEBOP KWAKU BAAH Reebop (Monster Afrobeat 1972 US first
press 7-track LP on the pink rim Island label, recorded at
Island's London Studios that year & guest starring Steve
Winwood. Reebop was a merciless conga player & joined
Winwood's Traffic after a meeting on tour in Sweden the
previous year [Brian Eno once described the percussionist &
all-out hedonist as Traffic's "direct-inject anti-jazz ray
gun"!?]. The pasted picture sleeve is still in hype stickered
open shrink with the company inner & the vinyl is Excellent,
with little evidence of play SW-9304)

Remi Kabaka, master percussionist, was the only non-formative member of Traffic that stayed longer in the band than Dave Mason & was with them from 1971 to 1974. He lived in Sweden when Traffic played there in 1971, jammed with them on stage and joined the band shortly after. He appeared on the albums Welcome to the Canteen, The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory and On the Road. He also played at Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert.
He went from Traffic to Can along with with Rosko Gee in 1977, playing with them until their breakup in 1979, appearing on the albums Saw Delight, Out of Reach and Can.
His many credits also include the Rolling Stones 2002 Tour, Band On The Run, Steve Winwood & John Martyn albums.
This album is dated on the labels 30/03/1977 & is the only information given apart from the catalogue number ILPS9394 & 'A' & 'B' - all handwritten. The hand scratched matrices in the run off vinyl match this catalogue number.
This album, upon playtesting, is a stunning MINT condition & is driving kick-ass funk of the highest order. It is known that in late 1976 Remi was working on a solo album and that it got as far as re-mix & post production but apparently never surfaced - Until now.
The press release pasted on the back of the sleeve lists the involvement of guitarists Junior Kerr [Wailers] & Pete Bonas [Brand X, Jim Capaldi] & Keyboard players Steve Winwood & Robert Bailey [Osibisa], but sadly no further details. All the playing is of a consistently high standard, so whoever else is playing on the album is of similar quality.
It looks like the solo album got as far as mastering & test pressing, with some sent out for advance promotional use like this one.
So, If you are looking for an otherwise unobtainable Island release or the missing Remi Kabaka solo album, look no further.
Needless to say, this is a one off - Get it while you can. | | REMI KABAKA Kabaka Son Of Africa (This is probably the rarest of
