A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...

THE DICK MORRISSEY QUARTET Here And Now And Sounding Good! (Rare 1967 UK 6-track mono LP on the textured black & silver Mercury label, recorded 23rd & 25th September 1966 in London with Phil Bates on Bass, Bill Eyden on Drums and Harry South on Piano, front laminated back pasted picture sleeve with sleeve notes by Mike Hawker 20093MCL)
See 'More Info' for further details on condition ...

Tracklisting: Dick Morrissey really should need no introduction. He sadly left so little recorded music behind him under his own name, thanks to a dislike of the sometimes clinical atmosphere of the recording studio, that he's not as well known as Tubby Hayes, for example, but he really should be. Easily amongst the best Sax players Britain has ever produced, he was most often found doing what he loved best, playing live to an appreciative audience. If you were lucky enough to hear him play, as I was, you will know just how good Dick was. One of British Jazz's best kept open secret treasures. This was his fifth album, and the first since 1963 to not be recorded live. Condition For an item almost fifty years old, this is a very impressive copy. The sleeve has just a couple of minor marks to the edges with minimal laminate lift. The mainly white pasted back is still very clean. The labels have just a few light spindle marks & are otherwise also very clean. Visually, there is a little faint axial wear to the grooves if you look really closely, but nothing of any real consequence or anything that interferes with playback. This plays through like a dream, as we've just listened to it all & it's wonderful. There is none of the usual 'burring' evidence of heavy play or a less than friendly stylus being used in the past. All sonics are full and impressive, from the smallest bell taps on the ride cymbal, the solo Bass runs of Phil Bates to the full melodic and agressive power of Dick Morrissey's Tenor in full flow. A wonderful example that should take pride of place in every jazz collection. Tracklisting Side A 1. Off The Wagon 2. Corpus 3. Don't Fall Over The Bridge Side B 1. Sunday Lunch 2. Little Miss Sadly 3. El Schtuck
THE DICK MORRISSEY QUARTET It's Morrissey, Man! (Limited Edition 2005 Japanese remastered issue of the 1961 12-track mono LP pressed on 150gram Vinyl, an outstanding tenor sax led date in the Bop tradition done the British way, including Mingus& Sonny Rollins covers. Also stars Stan Jones [piano], Malcolm Cecil [bass] & Colin Barnes [drums]. The picture sleeve replicates the original front laminated flipback design & comes complete with a Japanese insert & obi-strip. The packaging &the vinyl is Near Mint UCJU-9048)
DICK MORRISSEY QUARTET Here And Now And Sounding Good (1993 Japanese issue of the wonderful 1967 6-track stereo vinyl LP, recorded 23rd & 25th September 1966 in London with Phil Bates on Bass, Bill Eyden on Drums and Harry South on Piano, performing Tubby Hayes' Off the Wagon and Don't Fall Over the Bridge, with a nod to fellow British Jazz legend Stan Tracey with Little Miss Sadly, picture sleeve reproducing the original album artwork & 'N Presents' obi-strip NLP6006)

THE DICK MORRISSEY QUARTET It's Morrissey, Man! (1961 UK first press 12-track mono LP on the rough black & silver Fontana label, an outstanding tenor sax led date in the Bop tradition done the British way, including Mingus & Sonny Rollins covers. Also stars Stan Jones [piano], Malcolm Cecil [bass] & Colin Barnes [drums], front laminated flipback picture sleeve. The cover grades Excellent & shows no tears or writing, the flipbacks are secure. All text is clearly legible including the spine & the artwork looks wonderful. There is some very gentle age wear creeping in around some edges but this is minor. The vinyl is nice & clean & also grades Excellent - the vinyl reveals only faint cosmetic signs of its age & few signs of play with superb playback. This one's so rare, it's the first time we've ever seen the record! TFL5149)

The picture sleeve shows only very light fading at the edges, with no splits or blemishes to upset the print & a gorgeous spine. Simply an allround lovely, excellent condition example. The labels are bright & clear with no marks. The vinyl is super clean & plays through like a dream.
