Recorded in March 1965 but not released until 1979, The Soothsayer captures Wayne Shorter at the height of his creative surge for Blue Note, just months after Speak No Evil. Joined by an exceptional sextet - Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), James Spaulding (alto saxophone), McCoy Tyner (piano), Ron Carter (bass), and Tony Williams (drums) - Shorter delivers five original compositions plus a haunting arrangement of Jean Sibelius' "Valse Triste."
