Still active and creatively vibrant-most recently releasing a UK Top 2 album in 2023-OMD continue to build on a legacy that began in late-'70s Liverpool. Co-founders Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys helped shape the sound of 1980s synth-pop, combining experimental textures with strong melodies, as heard to great effect on Junk Culture.

Recorded in part at AIR Studios in Montserrat using the newly acquired Fairlight CMI sampler, and produced with Brian Tench (plus contributions from Tony Visconti), Junk Culture features some of the band's most enduring singles.

These include the UK Top 5 hit “Locomotion”, the club favourite “Tesla Girls”, and “Talking Loud and Clear”, which found chart success across Europe. The album also features classic OMD deep cuts like “Never Turn Away” and “Apollo,” wrapped in another iconic sleeve design by Peter Saville.
