BASIL KIRCHIN Worlds Within Worlds (Limited Edition 2019 UK issue
of the super rare 1971 two-part LP on Heavyweight Black Vinyl, fully
remastered for Trunk Records. Basil's name is familiar with those
interested in the pre-history of British electronic & experimental
music. Worlds Within Worlds [Parts I & II] was his first concept record,
having abandoned earlier work with his big band. It was a truly unique
release in Britain for the early seventies & alas one that sadly no one
bought! Basil's spiritual & philosophical motivation for creating sound
really had no match in Britain outside of academys & universities
which specialised in electro-acoustic music at the time. Worlds Within
Worlds essentially combines traditional instruments with wildlife
sounds & the amplified noise of insects in a 'musique concrete'
avant-garde style. Tape is painstakingly spliced, edited, looped &
manipulated to create a whole new world of alien yet beautiful
soundscapes. In hindsight, these sounds clearly anticipated the
subsequent ambient experiments of Brian Eno [who wrote the sleeve
notes for its follow-up Worlds Within Worlds 3/4], as well as a
generation of today's electronic artists such as Aphex Twin. Recorded
with the free-jazz alumni of Evan Parker [soprano sax], Derek Bailey
[guitar] & Frank Ricotti [marimba, organ], Basil's name was also
included on Nurse With Wound's infamous 'list' [available with original
copies of their first LP] & subsequently became a collectable artist
decades later for fans of underground music & the avant-garde.
Comes housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve in open shrinkwrap. The
sleeve & vinyl are 'as new' JBH080LP)
