JOHN COLTRANE QUARTET Plays (1965 UK 4-track stereo LP on the black boxed 'Nipper' label with red 'His Master's Voice' lettering, a jaw-dropping post-Love Supreme effort recorded straight after with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison or Art Davis & Elvin Jones. Includes a blistering reading of the Mary Poppins tune, Chim Chim Cheree, unlike any ballad before, pulled apart in 3/4 with a magnificent solo pushed to the limits. This was the beginnings of Trane's atonal period & is often overlooked. The front laminated flipback sleeve is Excellent with minimal signs of wear. The vinyl shows a little shelfwear/paperscuffs, not affecting play. Recommended CSD1619)
