Music In The Modern Manner Acetate

THE JAZZ COURIERS Music In The Modern Manner Acetate (One-off 1958 UK 12" double-sided metal based ultra high-grade methyl cellulose lacquer acetate, containing a recording of the January 17th, 1958 BBC radio broadcast, Music In The Modern Manner, introduced by Bruce Wyndham & produced by Cyril Drake. The acetate has a Pretex manufacturing label one side with 'The Jazz Couriers' print. The disc is fleshed out with two previously unreleased BBC session recordings by the Eddie Thompson Trio from the same broadcast. Considering it was common practice at this point for the BBC to wipe & re-use tapes for other programmes, this makes for quite a discovery. See 'more info' for further details...)

Tracklisting & More Information

Obtained from the private archive of a jazz enthusiast of the era, these recordings have been lifted from a BBC reel tape. There are several tape splices that can be heard inbetween tracks on occasion, & even some left over test recordings can be heard on the second side. Each song listed below is captured in full.

The Jazz Couriers -
Ronnie Scott (ts), Tubby Hayes (ts, vib), Terry Shannon (p), Phil Bates (b), Bill Eyden (d).

I Keep Thinking It's Thursday/ Stella By Starlight/ Plebus/ Guys & Dolls/ Star Eyes

Eddie Thompson Trio -

Underneath The Arches
Now Is The Time

The surface of the acetate has some natural cosmetic wear & the odd light scuff. It would benefit from a professional clean [distilled water only] & is left 'as is'. With a little aid, the sound is of a great quality that could be used for professional or private use.

We have ONE & one only, never to be repeated. Do not hesitate if this should belong in your collection.
