BEIRUT The Flying Club Cup (2007 US exclusive 13-track vinyl LP - one of the largest surprise hits of 2006 was Beirut's 'Gulag Orkestar', which received acclaim for its innovative combination of Balkan & pop melodies; even more surprising was that it was the work of one 19-year-old kid, Zach Condon, and done almost completely in his bedroom; 'Flying Club Cup' features a notable shift in sound from 'Gulag' and with song titles like 'Nantes' and 'Cherbourg', the record is more alove letter to French culture, with a guest appearance by Owen Pallett [Final Fantasy] who adds lush string arrangements, presented in sealed back-pasted card sleeve)
