A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
 | DON RENDELL Meet Don Rendell (Extremely rare 1955 UK
8-track 10" vinyl LP, also featuring Damian Robinson [Piano],
Peter Elderfield or Sammy Stokes [Bass] & Don Lawson or
Benny Goodman [Drums] in sessions recorded on 22/2/55 &
2/5/55, front laminated flipback picture sleeve L.A.P.1)
See 'More Info' for condition details ...
Tracklisting: Condition:
Now, as you might expect after over sixty five years, the sleeve does have issues, but amazingly few.
There is a little laminate loss and scuffing at the opening but not much more than that except a little expected creasing to the laminate in places.
The back shows a few spots of discolouration and has yellowed a bit with age but still is clearly readable, the flips are pretty secure and all in all it's a lot better looking than I am and even I'm not that old yet.
With something like this, 'grades' are pretty meaningless, so let me tell you about the vinyl instead.
Unlike the Sun singles, this wasn't cut with a 78 cutter, so will happily play on modern systems without hissing or the stylus grounding out.
It is evident that this LP has been looked after. There are several light hairlines and surface scuffs visible on both sides but nothing that you would call a 'scratch' and it plays through quite happily without fault.
There is a level of surface noise present, but this is not excessive either and can be minimised very easily if your system has a 'Mono' button as unfortunately surface noise only comes in Stereo. If you are lucky enough to own a Japanese Laser Record Deck, then you could probably dial the lasers below the surface scuffing completely as the blemishes are very light indeed.
The record still has its polythene bag inner, but because of the formulation of the vinyl in those days there has been no chemical reaction with the playing surface at all.
All in all a very acceptable copy of this extremely rare 10" LP and the first one we have seen in over thirty five years.
IF [big if] you can find another one, it will be a minor miracle if it's in much better condition than this one. In those days, sheet music was where the music sales were, not records, so of the very few that were purchased at the time, even less will have survived and still fewer will have been reasonably well looked after like this one.
Check the scans out and any questions at all don't hesitate to phone and ask.

(Recorded 2/5/55 with Damian Robinson, Sammy Stokes & Benny Goodman) | | DON RENDELL - BOBBY JASPAR COMBO In Paris (1955 UK
6-track mono 10" LP, an after-concert get together featuring
the Brit-Jazz star alongside the fine Belgian tenorist, recorded
March 17th, 1955 with Dave Amram (French Horn), Maurice
Vander (Piano), Sacha Distel (Guitar), Guy Pedersen (Bass) &
Jean-Baptiste Reilles (Drums), front laminated flipback sleeve
with notes & facsimile signatures from Don & Bobby. The
delicate sleeve has a small half inch split in the back opening
& a smallprice annotation, all unobtrusive. There is otherwise
just a little light corner creasing & the odd paper chipping in
the corners. The vinyl is a lovely EX/EX- example with just a
few mild cosmetic scuffs not affecting play. A remarkable find
