Their extravagant pop is suffused with an underlying sadness whilst buoyed by an irrepressible exuberance and joy. One of Canada's most-revered indie-rock acts, Malajube's native language is French but the songs are so powerful that language should be no obstacle to theEnglish speaking listener. Blending elements of classic rock with Flaming Lips-style euphoria and harmony-soaked ELO pop, garage rock in the style of Les Savy Fav with swirly Gallic keyboard sounds and grand orchestration, Malajube have forged a truly unique sound. There will be few more intriguing albums released in 2009 than 'Labyrinthes'.)
