The London School Of Economics Q4 1970

SUPERTRAMP / VARIOUS The London School Of Economics Q4 1970 (Rare 1970 original UK 36" by 25" psychedelic gig poster featuring amazing artwork by an unknown artist, cleverly coloured with an expressive three colour print, blending red, blue & yellow toproduce all colours of the rainbow. This rare poster advertises the forthcoming attractions at the College for the fourth quarter of the year, including If and Mighty Baby on 3rd October, Quintessence, Spear & The Westbrook Quintet on 17th October, East Of Eden on 31st October, Principal Edwards, Everyone & Supertramp on November 28th & The Radio Geronimo Benefit on December 12th. Each of these wondrous looking gigs started at 8PM with Andy Dunkley as resident DJ & the Exploding Spectrum light show. Possibly one of the earliest Supertramp poster references that you're likely to find, as well as a snapshot of the slow and steady movement from the Sixties to the Seventies)

Condition:

For forty year old paper goods, especially ones designed to be temporary, like this one, to have survived at all is a minor miracle.
This has obviously seen active service way back when, as it shows evidence of staple holes to the top corners and small pin holes to the bottom corners, presumably from drawing pins. This has led to some bedraggling and tearing at the top corners, even though the poster was obviously taken down with care and not just ripped off of the wall. In circumstances like this, such small tearing is inevitable, but there is little actual paper loss and it is well clear of the artwork and text, so this would be invisible if the poster was framed professionally.
Horizontally, the artwork and text reaches right to the edge. It could really have done with being another couple of inches wider, if the text is anything to go by!

The colours are still bright and unfaded. This has been stored rolled for some time, maybe since 1970, so there is a degree of creasing & minor nicks to the top and bottom edge, but nothing of any real importance. There is just one small tear to the right edge worth mentioning, but even this extends for just over half an inch and is well clear of the artwork and text itself.
There are a few marks on the back [should you decide to dispay it that way!] but nothing penetrates to the front image, so no liquid involvement.

Considering what it is & the fact that it probably lived on a College wall for three months, the condition is extraordinary. The artwork is amazing and along with the use of colour would be more at home coming from an Art College rather than the LSE. A wonderful find and probably by now unique, certainly in as good condition as this one.
