A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| SPEED Down The Road (Ultra rare legendary NWOBHM 1980 UK
Speed Records blue label with silver print vinyl 7" single which
also includes the track 'Man On The Street' featuring Bruce
Dickinson [known as 'Bruce Bruce' according to the insert] onvocals who was 'on loan' from Samson. This copy is complete
with the original paper insert which is made of very thin stock
paper and features grey pixellated images of the band on one
side & glossy black printed titles on the other. One of therarest
Iron Maiden related singles to find and this copy is in 'as new'
and unplayed condition!) Please see additional information
for more details:
Tracklisting: Bruce joined Samson in 1979 and was loaned to Speed just to record this single, he originally joined the band in 1977 whilst he was still at college. Described by Dickinson as sounding like a 'crossover between Judas Priest and The Stranglers with a Hammond organ', the name came from the fact that they played everything ridiculously fast and has nothing to do with drugs. Like Speed Metal but ten years too early!
This was from an interview with Bruce in 1997.
“That’s [the SPEED songs] a studio recording from when I was still at college. The original SPEED had already formally disbanded by that time, but Noddy White asked me whether or not I’d come back and sing on this number, which he intended to record with a couple of his mates. So I agreed to help him out, and we even got as far as laying down a second track, a boogie number, the title of which I’ve forgotten [he means "Down The Road"]. SPEED were, even back then, a kind of NWOBHM outfit, we played PRIEST and STRANGLERS songs alongside our own material and toured in and around London in the late 70s.”
To the actual disc itself:
This has blue labels with silver print and both labels are marked 'A', also has a raised centre ridge 1" diameter with hand scratched matrices:
EJSP-9409-A MAX LYN8460-1S
EJSP-9409-B MAX LYN8461-1S
The paper insert is 7" square and made of very thin stock paper, with glossy black print on the title side. The image side is distinctly pixellated and more grey than black.
