A FEW OF THE ITEMS WE WANT...
| THE NEW JAZZ ORCHESTRA Western Reunion (1965 UK 9-track deep
groove mono LP on the red unboxed Decca label, led by Neil Ardley
and including such Brit-jazz notables as Ian Carr & John Hiseman. The
front laminated sleeve shows only the very lightest signs of
discolouring but is otherwise excellent. The vinyl shows just the
lightest of spindle wear to indicate play and is clean and once again in
gorgeous EX+ condition. What makes this rather special is that it's
complete with a bonus fold-out flyer for three gig listings at
the Medway Little Theatre Club in Rochester, Kent (December, 1966).
Part printed and part handwritten, the Tubby Hayes Quartet, New Jazz
Orchestra and the Don Rendell Quintet were the three big names!
Lovely condition allround LK4690)

devoted to the title piece, an extraordinary original
composition by Ardley devoted to the greats; Duke Ellington &
Gil Evans, written for large ensemble including Don Rendell,
Stan Tracey, Henry Lowther, Harry Beckett, Jeff Clyne & Jon
Hiseman. The second side sees the words of Edward Lear, W.
B. Yeats, James Joyce, Lewis Carroll put to music - Ivor Cutler
narrates 'TheDong With A Luminous Nose', worth the price of
admission alone, & Norma Winstone's delivery on 'Will You
Walk A Little Faster' is just lovely! See 'more info' for
condition details... SLRZ1028)

Condition:-
The sleeve is fully textured & still a nice off white. The cover grades Excellent & reveals a little minor ring wear with just a faint patch of cosmetic wear in the top right corner on the reverse, & no writing. A lovely example.
The vinyl grades Excellent & reveals just a few small spindle marks & the odd light paper scuff to highlight play & has a deep sheen both sides & impressive sound. This album is possibly the very height of creativity in progressive British Jazz... if you've seen the BBC's British Jazz documentary from a few years back, you'll know this is the record Gilles Peterson holds up to the camera as if to say, 'you must own this one'! |
