GRACHAN MONCUR III Evolution (Rare 1964 US first press 4-track stereo LP on the 'New York USA' Blue Note label, with 'Van Gelder' stamp in the run-out & 'ear' etching both sides. Evolution is an incredible debut as leader from arguably the first trombonist to explore free jazz - Lee Morgan, Jackie McLean, Bobby Hutcherson, Bob Cranshaw & Tony Williams all star. Comes housed in the original pasted picture sleeve with the '43 West 61st St' address on the back & the 'Finest In Jazz' catalogue inner. The sleeve is Very Good with clean panels & all print is clearly legible including the spine. The inner is nice & crisp & there is a little gentle shelf wear scuffing - the main reason the cover grades VG is due to some small areas of 'paper worm' around the edges [see near the album title on front panel], often a storage issue & sometimes unavoidable. This copy has otherwise been rescued from the ravages of time & carefully wrapped in a resealable bag to preserve its condition. The heavyweight vinyl remains clean & in Excellent condition with minimal play in its life ST-84153) more...
