This album is legendary for many reasons - it was originally scheduled for release on 4th July 1969, however the UK release was withdrawn along with SAPCOR 7 which was going to be the Delaney & Bonnie album until released on Elektra/Atlantic. The number was reassigned to the Trash LP, but this too was withdrawn. The band then changed their name to Badfinger and after recording a McCartney demo and other songs for the 'Magic Christian' soundtrack enjoyed limited success.

The sleeve

The full colour pasted picture sleeve has the Apple logo, AP-8719 catalogue number and stereo symbol printed on the front with a brief biography by Derek Taylor on the reverse.

The front shows very little of its age, other than a little age-yellowing, which barely seems to impact on the white titles, leaving the image still wonderfully warm in its muted Sixties colours. There is a little inevitable foxing to the reverse with just the smallest strip of paper loss to the top right, but nothing to detract from the overall condition, which still boasts clear text & images. The edges remain sharp and the pasted edges still adhere closely. There are just a few very small scuffs to the top of the spine & text is still legible with the colours of the ink true.

The Vinyl

Side One SAPCOR-8A
Side Two SAPCOR-8B

The labels show the Apple logo at the top and have the Japanese text for 'Promotional' to the left with 'Not For Sale' directly underneath; the release date is shown to the right, given as 9/10. There is very little sign of spindle wear, if any, and the odd spot of foxing does nothing to mar the lovely off-white of the label.

The vinyl itself is graded as VG- with light scuffs and hairlines; playtesting confirms a great reproduction as to be expected with Japanese pressings, with just a little ambient noise in quieter sections and no distortion.

All in all a wonderful copy of an item which is as rare as you like in its home country.
