OLIVIER MESSIAEN Quatuor Pour La Fin Du Temps (1978 German quadraphonic stereo LP, featuring Saschko Gawriloff on Violin, Siegfried Palm on Cello, Hans Deinzer on Clarinet and Aloys Kontarsky on Piano, complete with extensive sleevenotes in German, English and French, laminated picture gatefold sleeve. This spectacular work was conceived, written & first performed while the composer was in a prisoner of war camp during the winter of 1940/41. The music was not a commentary on the times, but rather an exploration of the dissolution of time & the abandonment of traditional rhythmic & metrical events to create a challenging yet ultimately rewarding progressive piece utilising prime numbers as the basis for some of the asymmetrical passages.
