OLIVIER MESSIAEN Quatuor Pour La Fin Du Temps (1979 German stereo LP, recorded in the presence of the composer & authorised by him, featuring Luben Yordanoff on Violin, Albert Tétard on Cello, Claude Desurmont on Clarinet & Daniel Barenboim onPiano, complete with fold-out insert in German, English, French & Italian, laminated picture sleeve. This spectacular work was conceived, written & first performed while the composer was in a prisoner of war camp during the winter of 1940/41.The music was not a commentary on the times, but rather an exploration of the dissolution of time & the abandonment of traditional rhythmic & metrical events to create a challenging yet ultimately rewarding progressive piece utilising prime numbers as the basis for some of the asymmetrical passages. The sleeve shows minimal shelfwear & the vinyl is near mint)
