ORNETTE COLEMAN DOUBLE QUARTET Free Jazz (Groundbreaking 1961 first US issue two-part stereo LP on the blue & green Atlantic label with white fan logo to the right, a milestone in spontaneous group improvisation using two separate quartets panned either sideof the stereo spectrum that caused controversy at the time - could this really be jazz? The stellar array of musicians include Ornette, Donald Cherry, Scott LaFaro & Billy Higgins on the left channel & Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard,Charlie Haden & Ed Blackwell on the right. The heavyweight gatefold sleeve is front laminated & internally pasted, with extensive notes & a Jackson Pollock illustration inside. The cover is a beautiful clean example complete with the catalogue inner. The cover grades Excellent, showing merely the lightest spot of paper wear to a few edges. The heavyweight vinyl is Excellent & close to Near Mint, revealing just a couple of ever so faint paper scuffs not interfering with play. Highly recommended for the more adventurous! SD1364)
