YURI KRASNAPOLSKY conducts THE NEW PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA Five Etudes Tableaux/ The Voyevode/ The Storm (1974 UK black & white stamp label 7-track stereo LP. This copy was sent out for review purposes as the label is factory sample stickered to one side. Rachmaninov's five Etudes were orchestrated by the Italian composer Respighi, who was experienced in the Russian approach. Rachmaninov offered Respighi some cryptic hints about the inspiration behind each tableaux & these gave rise to the popular titles of the individual pieces. Also on this disc are two of Tchaikovsky's final works. Both were published posthumously but they belong to widely separate periods in the composer's career. The Storm was originally composed in 1864 during Tchaikovsky's student days, whilst the Voyevode was composed in 1891 at the very end of his life. This recording is widely considered the definative performance of these works and is recommended in the TAS list. Both the front laminated sleeve & vinyl are near mint ASD3013)
