BENNY HILL Sings Ernie The Fastest Milkman In The West (2009 issue UK 15-track CD album - Although remembered by most for his hugely successful TV shows and the numerous much-loved sketches and characters they spawned, Benny Hill also had a lifelong involvement in music, limericks, witty rhymes and such like, which this fantastic album sees him explore to the full. Many will be familiar with poor old Ernies tale, but also explored here are the exploits of other Hill creations, alongside some hugely clever wordplay numbers ['Broken Hearted Lovers Stew' in particular is quite astounding and some of his spoken word and dialogue pieces performed in front of a live audience]. All words and music here are Hills own, and he displays a musical knack as well honed as much of his comedic material, managing to find that delicate and enticing balance of material which has the kids rolling about with laughter and challenges Mum and Dad to resist exchanging smirks and knowing glances. Anybody who has enjoyed Hills TV persona, and were taking for granted here that were all sensible enough nowadays to forego the politically less-correct nature of the times in which it was created, is sure to enjoy these terrific works which see him veer from lounge bar crooner to west country yokel and back again via a number of musical styles and arrangements crafted by many of the finest session players of the day)
