Early assaults like 'Preachin' The Blues' are soul-searingly psychotic but, by CD 4’s gutbucket blues andmelancholy acoustic outings from the Lucky Jim period, Pierce found a new kind of intimate personal blues towards the end of the remarkable journey represented here. Had he lived, Jeffrey could have risen to similar heights as his friend Nick Cave; here’s further proof that he still left some fabulous trackmarks.
