GREGORIAN CHANT The Benedictine Monks Of Saint Wandrille De Fontenelle (2008 UK 13-track CD album - Recorded in France as long ago as 1951, this album was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque by the L'Academie Charles Cros. It comprises a collectionof well-known sacred pieces sung in Latin, the majority in traditional acappella style. The performances are by the Benedictine Monks Of The Abbaye de St. Wandrille de Fontenelle, in Normandy, not far from Rouen. Included in the collection isa track devoted to a recording of the bells of the monastery. The startling photographs used on the CD booklet cover depict the exterior of the old Abbey ruins alongside the interior of their new church. As well as providing the type of restful and inspiring listening for which Gregorian chants are famous, this is also a piece of musical history which can be firmly associated with its roots.)
