Tracklisting & More Information
The album itself is a conceptual adaption of Biblical passages from John 13-18, and is extremely experimental in both its lyrical content and composition. The band used the help of an outside writer, Costa's Ferris, to create this monumental record. While combining psychedelic and prog rock, the album also incorporates ethnic instruments, choral chanting, and spoken word recitiations. Including a guest appearance on 'Infinity' from Greek Actress Irene Papas.
Vangelis himself as stated that the album was apparently created under the influence of Sahlep, a Turkish flour which is consumed in beverages or deserts. This, coupled with the album bearing the 'Number Of The Beast' as the album title, was misinterpreted by fundamentalist Christians as perhaps a drug, a demon, or even a black magic sect, not infact a Turkish delicacy.
The condition of this rarity is nothing short of fantastic. The sleeve is in Excellent condition, with only some sun bleaching on the spine due to the type of ink used at that period, and some light wear on the un-laminated inside of the gatefold. These are the only signs that would make you aware you are looking at a record that is over forty years old. Also included are the two original swirl poly-lined inners that are date stamped '03/72', confirming they are the inners from the time of purchase.
The vinyl itself shows only some light, and I do mean light, spindle wear to show that it has even seen a turntable, and has been played with the greatest of care. The playing surface retains a beautiful shine, and when held under light reveals only one or two very fine hairline marks, which more likely to be from taking the record in and out of the inner.
This record is increasingly hard to find now, in any condition, let alone as nice as this one, and arguably the best copy we have ever seen. In short, a careful one owner copy, that is deserving of a place in any serious record collection with no need to ever upgrade!
