Out of all the members of Take That, Robbie Williams never really seemed to fit in. So it didn't come as a surprise that he was the first to leave the band, departing early in the summer of 1995 to pursue a solo career. Although he was the first out of the gate, it took Williams awhile to get started. His first single, a cover of George Michael's 'Freedom '90', was a flop. His first solo album, again started slowly and only really gained momentum and pretty much saved his solo career when the sweeping ballad 'Angels' became an unexpected smash hit. Each of his subsequent albums have sold by the bucket load and his popularity was cemented further with a record busting appearance at Knebworth in 2003.
