CANNONBALL ADDERLEY Somethin' Else (Circa 1959 issue of the 1958 US 5-track deep groove mono LP on the 'West 63rd - NYC' address label, with 'INC' & 'R' lettering, raised edge, 'RVG' stampers & 'ear' markings in the run-outs, housed ina heavy duty pasted laminate sleeve with 'West 61st' address on rear. One of many Blue Note classics, this is a particular standout as it includes not only Cannonball's but some of Miles Davis' best work, who appears here along with Hank Jones, Sam Jones & Art Blakey. With 'Inc' & 'R' lettering after 'Blue Note'. Deep groove with '47 West 63rd - NYC' address.

This particular copy was pressed just after "Blue Note Records" became an incorporated company & a registered trademark. The same fine sound as the 47W63rds pressings without the 'INC' and 'R' on the labels is present. We have play tested this record & the sound is immense. This copy must come from an early batch of the second run with stampers originating from the same Matrix/ mothers as the original 47W63rds previously mentioned.
A combination of Van Gelder's sound engineering & Plastylite pressing [with or without the 'R'] is the 'golden age' for high quality, Blue Note pressings.

Condition : -
The heavyweight pasted laminate sleeve is in great shape, with just a very minor corner crease & a tiny bit of foxing on the back. There are no splits & all text remains clearly legible. This copy even retains the original Mecolico & tax price import stickers on the rear. Very nice indeed.

There is a previous owner's name penned on the side 1 label. This is unobtrusive to the print but is reflected in the price. There is a 'deep groove' visible both sides & a raised edge. From a collector's standpoint, a flat edge is more desirable but in terms of sound quality there is little between a flat & raised edge pressing of these original monos. There are some very light spindle marks to indicate play but nothing excessive.

The vinyl has been professionally cleaned on a Matrix machine and has come up looking sparkling. It was already looking amazing prior to the clean! Under a bright light, there is just a little light axial wear or minor paper scuffs not affecting play. It sounds amazing & reaches a firm VG+/EX- grade.

A classic.
