SERGE CHALOFF Blue Serge (Fantastic 1956 US 7-track mono LP on the turquoise Capitol label, from the American baritone sax legend, who died tragically from cancer of the spine at only 33 years young, just after he succeeded in beating his drugaddiction. Highly individual & ripe for rediscovery, this is possibly the high water mark of Serge's career, ably assisted by Leroy Vinnegar on Bass & Joe Jones on Drums. Sleeve : -

The sleeve is tape reinforced top & bottom due to seam splits. However, both panels remain largely unaffected by any significant storage wear & the print remains clearly legible including along the spine. In other words, this is not a chainsmoker's copy! We would otherwise grade this copy an honest VG-.
As a nice aside, there is a Sculthorpe Air Force (Fakenham, Norfolk UK) stamp in the bottom right, which served as a home for many visiting airmen & support crews of the US Air Force & clearly one or two nice jazz records to boot.

Vinyl : -

The vinyl has been professionally cleaned on a Matrix machine & has come up looking sparkling. Upon play test [in true mono of course!], we noticed just a little light surface noise in the quiet sections but otherwise the quality of the music shines through. Visually we would grade this copy an honest VG but it plays much higher towads an EX/EX-. A classic album!

All in all, this is a lovely copy of this cool jazz masterpiece & a great talk piece.
